The Window Covering Safety Council encourages parents and child caregivers to check all window coverings for potential cord hazards and make any necessary safety updates.
Install only cordless window coverings in bedrooms and areas where young children sleep.
Any window blinds, corded shades, and draperies manufactured before 2001 should be replaced with products that meet updated safety standards.
Window blinds, corded shades, and draperies manufactured before 2001 can be repaired with retrofit cord kits if replacement is not possible. These kits are available by emailing lineblinds@ gmail. com calling 1-213-509-0007.
Cribs, beds, furniture, and toys should be moved away from windows and cords. All window pull cords and inner lift cords should be kept out of children’s reach. Pull cords must be kept short and keep continuous-loop cords permanently secured to the wall. Be sure to properly install cord stops and adjust them to limit the movement of inner lift cords.
Whenever horizontal blinds or shades are lowered, lock them into position, even when they rest on the window sill.
